Adding our pixel is straightforward, and the process is similar to many other common tools you may already be familiar with.
You can target anonymous visitors to your site using our SiteMatch feature. PostPilot's SiteMatch pixel can be installed via Google Tag Manager (recommended), or manually to your Shopify store by adding it to your Shopify theme's layout file.
(And remember, regardless of how it's installed, our tracking pixel always loads in the background for your visitors, and won't slow down your site's page load speed.)
This tutorial outlines installation using your Shopify theme's layout file.
SiteMatch is an incredible way to boost your business by reaching anonymous visitors to your online store! Note, however that (at least for now) it is only supported for visitors residing in the US.
First, find and copy the pixel snippet in the PostPilot app.
- Login to PostPilot and tap on Integrations.
- Select SiteMatch from the list and click Manage.
- Choose your Shopify store.
- Tap the copy icon the the right of the script code.
If you are installing your pixel using Google Tag Manager, you can paste the copied script code into GTM, and skip the remainder of the steps below.
Next, add the pixel snippet to your Shopify store's layout.
If you're not using GTM, head over to your Shopify Admin console.
Heads up: PostPilot's tracking pixel is not currently compatible with Shopify's web pixels. We'll be updating our pixel to support this soon, but in the meantime, if your site is utilizing the Shopify web pixel sandbox, you'll need to install the SiteMatch tracking pixel directly into your view template as described in this document.
- Once logged in, go to Online Store → Themes → (your theme name). Click the ellipsis next to the "Customize" button, and select "Edit code":
- On the Edit Code page, you’ll see a list of files on the left side of the screen. Find the “Layout” folder and click on theme.liquid:
- Scroll through the code to locate the </head> tag. (Using your browser's text search feature is a nice shortcut here!)
- Paste the pixel code that you copied from PostPilot into a new line just above the </head> tag. The end result will look similar to this example:
- Click the "Save" button in the top right to confirm your edits:
IMPORTANT!
Be careful not to alter anything else in this file. Doing so can impact the functionality of your store site. If you feel unsure, please reach out to our support team to assist.
It'll take a minute or two for the two systems to connect, but once connected, you'll see a message stating that 'This pixel has been successfully verified' in the PostPilot app in the Integrations → SiteMatch → Manage screen.
Once verified, you're ready to start using your SiteMatch pixel.
Click on Flows to setup some campaigns to start targeting site visitors. (More on that here.)
